Well if no one is going to comment on this, I will. :P
One of my biggest influences, since when I first knew I wanted to be an artist is Matisse, during his Jazz period. I can’t say that what I am interested in exploring in my work is exactly like that, since my influences of design and even cartooning have a direct influence about how I work. I am most interested in reducing things to their base elements, while leaving room for nuanced interpretation.
In this case, my other childhood influence, Picasso, lives in this piece. Directly, the face is angry, confrontational seeming, so much so that it obscured its own mouth. While in profile it is uncertain, insecure, and lonesome.
Overall, its about how I feel I am projected online, versus who I am. How we segment ourselves to exist here, how that is ultimately cruel. We cannot possibly be human here.
This comment had to be made since I wasn’t sure if anyone of my viewers sees these kinds of things in my work, and since they haven’t or don’t care to, I have failed. I hate elaborating.
Thanks for sharing your analysis – whether necessary or not, it’s always interesting seeing where people’s artworks come from.
Also, I’m wearing 3D glasses (anaglyph type, red & blue lenses) as I write this, and strongly suggest goggling this piece wearing such eyewear.
+2 to Trippy.
